Seawater Desalination
WET offers desalination systems for commercial, industrial and municipal use.
What are nanofiltration systems and why do we need them? So your considering water filtration systems and water technologies for your new filtration project but have ran accross the terms nanofiltration, microfiltration, and ultrafiltration and your not quite sure what they mean. There is no mystery in the technologies and there are really good uses for these types of water systems in global markets.
Nanofiltration system simply means a water filtering system that uses membrane filters to process “total disolved solids”. These water technologies are most often used to soften water and to remove disinfection by-products like natural organic matter and synthetic organic matter. One reason to choose this type of system includes food processing for concentration and partial demineralisation.
Nanofiltration uses nanometer sized through-pores that can pass through membranes. Pore sizes of nanofiltration membranes range from 1 – 10 nanometers, smaller pore sizes are used in microfiltration and ultrafiltration systems. Nanofiltration differs from reverse osmosis in that RO pore sizes are larger. The current research trend is to develop membranes to improve performance in permeate flux and lower the membrane resistance with the final goals to reduce fouling and energy requirments. Advances in nanofiltration membrane technology are being made with new materials and configurations which upgrades the ability to effectively filter out contaminants. More on nanfiltration technology can be found on the nanofiltration article from Wikipedia.
